Okay, so I’ve been lazy, and for the last four blog postings here, have dug through old files and used my previous poetry and other tomes.

So, instead of just writing about writing, I thought I would delve into whatever is in front of me at the moment, which right now is a prospective reality TV show.

But I need your help. What shows do you like the best? What is there too much of? What should there be more of?

I was surprised to see there are 9,311 reality show titles listed on IMDB, although some of them were very short lived.

They range from contests such as “The Voice,” which I love; “Dancing with the Stars,” “American Idol,” “America’s Next Top Model,” “Project Runway,” “Survivor,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which I am drawn into for whatever reason, and the so-called “love” competitions of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.”

The obviously popular home makeovers and food shows are way too many to list, and there are at least four tattoo shows that I find myself curiously intrigued by, even though I am not into tats.

I didn’t know there were so many shows about Alaska, and other outdoor shows such as “Duck Dynasty” have found quite an audience.

There are those I consider to be exploitive reality shows of “Dance Moms” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” and the “sex sells” episodes I have no interest in, such as “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” “Jersey Shore” and “The Real Housewives” and all its spinoffs.

There are the “Intervention” and “Hoarders” shows, and “Property Brothers,” “Storage Wars” and “Shipping Wars,” the latter which have nothing to do with sex or real drama, but are just interesting slice-of-life looks at jobs that someone thought would be interesting TV.

What would you like to see in a reality television show? What do you find interesting? What turns you off? And be honest: if you really watch the shows with plenty of cleavage and not much else, it’s ok.

It seems to me there aren’t that many positive, uplifting shows around, and I personally would like to see something like that. How about you? Post a message on Facebook at Read Laurie Fagen, or email me at LaurieFagen@gmail.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts, and will keep you posted about the one I am starting to work on with friends.
